james wright is a new zealander of english and afro/portuguese descent. he attributes a lot of ethics to his father, growing up watching his dad in the workshop on the farm. his dad was always tinkering, creating something practical and inventing pieces for everyday use.

time spent working the land he also attributes to his style, the natural forms and elements connecting with him. these and living in aotearoa have been influential to his practice.

from his early exhibitions in 2000 his work was in demand across the country.

his works are in many private collections and he has three public works in the greater auckland region.
